Feeling Green

There was no St. Patrick’s day luck for the old St. Pats. Toronto fell to the Islanders 3-1 Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena.

The Maple Leafs dusted off their green and white uniforms for the holiday tilt. The jerseys looked great, but the team did not.

New York jumped out in front early. Brayden Schenn opened the scoring for the Islanders, roofing home a power-play goal by Jospeh Woll at 4:15 of the first period.

New York scored another goal on the man-advantage at 9:43. Calum Ritchie jammed home his own rebound for his 9th of the season, giving the Islanders a 2-0 lead.

Steven Lorentz cut the margin in half with his 5th on the year, wheeling around and wristing a missile by Ilya Sorokin to make it 2-1, 4:40 into the second period.

The Islanders got the goal back at 11:57. Emil Heineman one-timed a cross-ice feed from Tony DeAngelo to stretch the lead back out to two, at 3-1. That’s how the game finished as neither team could find the back of the net in the remaining minutes. The only semblance of action occurred late in the second. Morgan Rielly and Kyle MacLean squared off in a forgettable fight after MacLean bumped into Woll.

Next up, Toronto hosts the Carolina Hurricanes Friday night at Scotiabank Arena.
