Game Preview: Liljegren returns from injury, as Leafs vs. Detroit

The Toronto Maple Leafs (46-24-9) vs. The Detroit Red Wings (38-32-9) tonight at Scotiabank Arena in an original six matchup.

Toronto is coming off a 6-5 loss to the New Jersey Devils Thursday night.

The Leafs and Red Wings will meet for the third and final time this season. Detroit won the previous matchup 4-2 in January.

Auston Matthews is two goals away from 70. If he achieves this milestone, he will become the first player since Alexander Mogilny and Teemu Selanne to score 70 goals since 1993.

William Nylander will look to break his goalless streak. He has not scored in eight games.

Since returning to the lineup from an ankle sprain, Mitch Marner is on a four-game point streak.

Timothy Liljegren will return to the lineup after missing eight games with an injury. Joel Edmundson will sit out.

Detroit is looking to climb into the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With a win, they can climb into a playoff spot. They are one point out.

Lucas Raymond leads the Red Wings with 68 points. He scored a hat trick in Detroit’s 6-5 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.

James Reimer is the confirmed starting goalie for Detroit.

Ilya Samsonov will start in the net for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Game time is at 7:00p.m on Sportsnet and CBC.
