Game Preview: Samsonov makes second straight start as Leafs host Winnipeg

The Toronto Maple Leafs (23-14-8) get set for home and series vs. Winnipeg Jets (30-11-4) tonight at Scotiabank Arena.

Toronto returns to action after their 3-1 win Sunday against the Seattle Kraken.

John Tavares is looking to break his eight-game pointless streak. It is the longest he hasn’t had a point in his tenure as a Maple Leaf. In 45 games played this season, Tavares has 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points.

Tyler Bertuzzi will be out of the lineup tonight as he and his wife are expecting a baby.

In Bertuzzi’s absence, Pontus Holmberg will be on the second line with John Tavares and Mitch Marner.

Nick Robertson will be in the lineup again. He returned on Sunday after being a healthy scratch for the last three games. Robertson had a goal in the win against Seattle.

Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi will be out of the Jets lineup tonight with lower-body injuries. Scheifele has missed the last five games, and this will be Vilardi’s second missed game.

Maple Leafs head coach confirmed yesterday that Ilya Samsonov will make his second straight start in the net.

Starting in goal for Winnipeg will be Laurent Brossoit.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:00 p.m. on Sportsnet.
