The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenceman Ilya Lyubushkin and the rights to unsigned draft choice Kirill Slepets from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a third-round pick.
The Ducks will retain 50 percent of his salary.
To make the deal work, the Carolina Hurricanes are the third team involved. They will receive a sixth-round pick and retain 25 percent salary.
Lyubushkin played 31 games and seven playoff games for the Maple Leafs in the 2022 season.
Toronto has been known to be in the market looking for a right-handed shot defenceman.
