The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Alex Nylander to a one-year $775,00 contract.

The signing followed after the Maple Leafs placed Matthew Knies forward on the IR.

Nylander signed with the Maple Leafs organization in July on a one-year AHL deal with the Toronto Marlies. In 14 games played this season, Nylander has eight goals and four assists.

The 26-year-old last played in the NHL last season, splitting time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets. Nylander played in 28 games, and in 23 of those games with Columbus, he scored 11 goals and four assists for 15 points.

Alex was drafted eighth overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2016. He is the brother of Maple Leafs forward William Nylander. Alex will make his Maple Leafs debut on Sunday when Toronto takes on the Utah Hockey Club.
