The Toronto Maple Leafs saw their five-game winning streak snapped Monday night, falling 3-2 in a shootout to the San Jose Sharks at Scotiabank Arena.
Toronto controlled the early play, with John Tavares and Matthew Knies both scoring power-play goals to give the Leafs a 2-0 lead. But San Jose battled back in the third, as Jack Thompson and Tyler Toffoli capitalized on defensive lapses to force overtime.
Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz made 20 saves, while Sharks netminder Alexandar Georgiev stood tall with 25 stops. In the shootout, Fabian Zetterlund netted the winner, handing Toronto a tough loss.
A bright spot for the Leafs was the return of Calle Jarnkrok, who made his season debut after recovering from hernia surgery. Despite the setback, Toronto remains in a strong position as they look to rebound in their next matchup.
