Canada’s memorable 2026 FIFA World Cup journey came to an end on Saturday with a 3-0 defeat to Morocco in the Round of 16 in Houston.

The Canadians held their own through a scoreless first half, creating several promising opportunities despite missing captain Alphonso Davies, who was unavailable because of a lingering hamstring injury. However, Morocco took control after halftime, with Azzedine Ounahi scoring twice before Soufiane Rahimi added a stoppage-time goal to seal the victory.

Canada showed plenty of energy and determination throughout the match but struggled to convert their chances against a disciplined Moroccan defence. Morocco’s clinical finishing proved to be the difference, as the Atlas Lions advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals.

Despite the loss, Canada can be proud of its tournament. Under head coach Jesse Marsch, the Reds advanced to the knockout stage of a FIFA World Cup for the first time in the nation’s history, providing memorable moments for Canadian soccer fans and continuing the growth of the men’s national program ahead of future international competitions.

Canada exits the tournament with its head held high after a historic World Cup campaign that showcased the country’s progress on the international stage.
