Toronto FC gave their supporters at BMO Field a wild match Saturday, April 4th 2026, coming from behind to defeat the Colorado Rapids 3 to 2 in one of the most dramatic games of the young MLS season. The match was played in Toronto and featured momentum swings, multiple red cards, and a big second half comeback from the Reds.
The first half ended scoreless but the match quickly exploded after halftime. Colorado struck first when Paxten Aaronson scored in the 51st minute to give the Rapids a 1 to 0 lead. Just three minutes later Colorado doubled their advantage when defender Keegan Rosenberry scored to make it 2 to 0 and put Toronto in serious trouble.
Toronto refused to fold in front of the home crowd. The comeback began in the 65th minute when Richie Laryea scored for Toronto with assists from Josh Sargent and José Cifuentes, cutting the deficit to 2 to 1. The pressure kept building and it finally paid off in the 77th minute when Colorado goalkeeper Zack Steffen accidentally turned the ball into his own net, tying the game at 2 to 2.
The winning moment came late in the match. In the 85th minute Josh Sargent scored the decisive goal after a setup from Alonso Coello, completing the comeback and giving Toronto the 3 to 2 victory. It was the first goal for Josh Sargent since joining Toronto and it could end up being a big confidence boost moving forward.
The match was also extremely physical with several disciplinary moments. Colorado midfielder Jackson Travis received a red card in the first half. Later in the game Toronto defender Raheem Edwards was also sent off, and Colorado defender Miguel Navarro picked up a second yellow card and was sent off as well.
Key offensive contributors in this game included:
Toronto FC
• Josh Sargent scoring the winning goal and adding an assist
• Richie Laryea scoring the first Toronto goal
• José Cifuentes contributing to the attack and helping set up chances
• Alonso Coello assisting on the game winner
Colorado Rapids
• Paxten Aaronson opening the scoring
• Keegan Rosenberry scoring Colorado’s second goal
Through the early part of the 2026 season Toronto now sits at 3 wins 2 losses and 1 draw with 10 points. That is a far more encouraging start compared to recent seasons where the club struggled near the bottom of the MLS standings.
It is still very early, but there are real signs of improvement. The team is showing resilience by fighting back from deficits and the scoring is coming from multiple players instead of relying on just one star. Players like Josh Sargent, Richie Laryea, Jonathan Osorio, and Dániel Sallói are all contributing to the attack while the defense has held up well during key moments.
After several frustrating seasons for TFC supporters, this start feels different. The club is competitive again and picking up important points early in the schedule. If they can keep getting production from their new additions and continue protecting their home field at BMO Field, a playoff push in the Eastern Conference is not out of the question.
It is early, but there is finally some real optimism around Toronto FC again.
TFC 👏👏👏 TFC!!!
