Vegas Golden Knights 4, Toronto Maple Leafs 3 (Shootout)

Thursday, October 8, 2026 · T-Mobile Arena · Las Vegas, Nevada

The Toronto Maple Leafs let a three-goal first-period lead slip away before falling 4–3 to the Vegas Golden Knights in a shootout on Thursday night.

Toronto looked poised to make it back-to-back victories after its dramatic overtime win against Nashville, but Vegas gradually took control and completed the comeback.

The Maple Leafs came out flying and built a commanding 3–0 advantage in the opening minutes.

Jack Roslovic opened the scoring just 34 seconds into the game, marking his 300th career point

Easton Cowan doubled the lead at 3:20 with a breakaway goal.

Nick Paul made it 3–0 at 8:37, putting Toronto firmly in control.

Vegas captain Mark Stone began the comeback at 17:36, cutting the deficit to 3–1 before the first intermission.

Second Period: Vegas turns the momentum

The Golden Knights continued their push in the second period. Brett Howden scored at 1:12, finishing a pass from former Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner to make it 3–2.

At 3:58, Jack Eichel converted a penalty shot to tie the game at 3–3.

Toronto suddenly faced a completely different contest after allowing Vegas to erase its three-goal cushion.

Both teams battled through the remainder of regulation without another goal.

Toronto had opportunities to regain the lead, but Vegas goaltender Adin Hill kept the Maple Leafs off the scoreboard.

Overtime also failed to produce a winner, sending the game to a shootout.

Shootout: Connelly delivers

Trevor Connelly scored in the fifth round of the shootout, beating Toronto goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky with a backhand-forehand move. Hill then stopped John Tavares to secure the victory for Vegas.

Kirill Marchenko was Toronto’s only successful shootout attempt, while Braeden Bowman also scored for the Golden Knights.

Three stars of the game

1. Jack Eichel — Vegas

Scored the penalty-shot equalizer and helped spark the Golden Knights’ comeback.

2. Jack Roslovic — Toronto

Scored early and reached the 300-point milestone in his 600th NHL game.

3. Sergei Bobrovsky — Toronto

Made 40 saves to keep the Maple Leafs competitive despite Vegas’ sustained offensive pressure.

Final analysis

Toronto’s opening-period performance showed the team’s offensive potential, but the inability to protect a 3–0 lead proved costly.

The Golden Knights generated 43 shots and steadily took control after their early deficit, while Hill shut the door for the remainder of regulation and overtime.

For the Maple Leafs, the biggest concern is defensive consistency.

Scoring three goals in the first period should put a team in a strong position to win, but Toronto could not maintain its advantage.
