Utah Mammoth 3,

Toronto Maple Leafs 2

The Toronto Maple Leafs battled back to tie the game in the third period, but a late power-play goal by Nick Schmaltz lifted the Utah Mammoth to a 3–2 victory at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night.

The loss dropped Toronto to 8–7–2 on the 2026–27 NHL season, while Utah improved to 10–6–0.

Game highlights

Jack Roslovic leads Toronto: Roslovic scored twice, including the third-period equalizer, and extended his point streak to seven games.

Matthews contributes: Auston Matthews recorded two assists and extended his point streak to five games.

Utah strikes late: Schmaltz scored the decisive power-play goal with 6:48 remaining in regulation.

Bobrovsky keeps Toronto in it: Sergei Bobrovsky made 33 saves, giving the Leafs a chance to earn points despite defensive breakdowns

Turning point

Toronto’s biggest problem was its penalty kill.

After Roslovic tied the game at 2–2, Utah capitalized on the power play to regain the lead late.

The Leafs finished 0-for-2 with the man advantage and allowed two power-play goals, extending their streak of conceding a power-play goal to five consecutive games.

Three key takeaways

Roslovic is delivering: His seven-game point streak has become a major positive for Toronto’s offence.

Special teams need attention: The penalty kill must improve, particularly in tight third-period situations.

The defensive details matter: Toronto generated enough offence to tie the game, but could not prevent Utah from scoring the winner.

What’s next

The Maple Leafs will host the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, November 7.

Toronto needs a stronger defensive performance and better special-teams execution to get back on track.

Final assessment: Roslovic’s two-goal performance deserved a better result.

Toronto showed resilience by battling back, but costly penalty-kill mistakes proved decisive in a frustrating 3–2 home loss.
