Marlies Defeat Hamilton Hammers 5–3 in Home Opener

Saturday, October 3, 2026 | American Hockey League

The Toronto Marlies celebrated their home opener with an impressive 5–3 victory over the Hamilton Hammers, delivering an offensive outburst in front of their home fans at Coca-Cola Coliseum.

Toronto jumped out to a commanding early lead and built enough of a cushion to withstand Hamilton’s attempts to fight back.

Brendan Brisson opened the scoring at 11:22 on the power play, converting a setup from captain Logan Shaw and Henrik Rybinski.

Noah Chadwick extended the advantage at 12:57, with Philippe Myers and Luke Haymes collecting assists.

Landon Sim made it 3–0 at 16:10, assisted by Rybinski and Borya Valis. Brisson then struck again at 17:26, finishing a play set up by Cole McWard and Shaw to cap a dominant opening period.

Marlies Extend Their Advantage

Toronto continued its offensive pressure early in the second period. Shaw scored just 53 seconds into the frame, with Brisson and Vinni Lettieri assisting, pushing the Marlies’ lead to 5–0.

Hamilton responded through Pierre Engvall at 1:45, assisted by Brandon Scanlin.

Ethan Bear added another goal at 8:41, with Liam Foudy earning the assist.

The Hammers continued to compete, but Toronto’s early scoring surge proved decisive.

Third-Period Finish

Hamilton continued its push in the final period, but Toronto protected its lead and secured the 5–3 victory.

After building a five-goal advantage, the Marlies demonstrated the importance of getting an early jump on the opposition, even as Hamilton made the contest more competitive.

Three Stars of the Game

First Star — Brendan Brisson

Two goals and one assist

Brisson led Toronto’s offensive attack with a pair of goals and an assist.

Second Star — Logan Shaw

One goal and two assists

The captain contributed across the scoring sheet and helped Toronto establish its early advantage.

Third Star — Liam Foudy

One goal and one assist

Foudy contributed offensively for Hamilton as the Hammers attempted to close the gap.

What This Means for Toronto

The victory gives the defending Calder Cup champions a positive response after their season-opening loss to Rochester.

Toronto’s five-goal performance showcased its offensive potential, with Brisson, Shaw, Rybinski and Sim all contributing to the attack.

The Marlies will look to carry that momentum into their next meeting with Hamilton, scheduled for October 9 at TD Coliseum.
