With the second round of the Copa America tournament, Canada looks to get into winning pays against Peru. Canada sits at the bottom of their table with Argentina winning a match and Peru and Chile gaining one point each.
The first half was more on the defensive side for Canada, with only one shot recorded. Peru put up a fight and had 5 shots within the first half of the match. The main man for Canada has been their goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau saving two shots in the first 45 minutes.
The second half began with almost 50/50 possession for both teams. In the 59’th minute after a check from VAR, Peru’s Miguel Araujo got sent off for a reckless tackle on Jacob Shaffelburg. Canada’s forward Jonathan David scored in the 74’th minute of the match with a nice shot going into the bottom left corner of the net. After the goal, Canada kept the pressure on Peru and remained consistent until the final whistle blew.
Canada will now be going from the bottom of the group table to second with Argentina vs Chile left to be played today. Jesse Marsch will be very happy getting his side their first win in the Copa America tournament. Now Canada will be looking to continue this form against Chile on the 29th of June.
