The Toronto Blue Jays saw their four-game winning streak snapped Sunday, falling 6–1 to the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Toronto finished its road trip with a 72–72 record and is now one game behind Cleveland for the final American League wild-card position.
Game story: Kansas City jumped ahead early. Vinnie Pasquantino launched a three-run homer in the first inning, and Salvador Perez added a two-run shot in the third. Nick Loftin later drove in another run to give the Royals a commanding 6–0 advantage
Toronto finally got on the board in the sixth when Josh Smith hit a solo home run, but the Blue Jays could not generate any further offense. Brett Bateman had three hits, while Toronto managed eight hits overall.
Pitching: Spencer Arrighetti struggled, surrendering six runs on six hits in 4⅔ innings, with three walks and three strikeouts. Randy Dobnak was excellent for Kansas City, allowing one run on four hits over six innings.
Playoff picture
The loss puts additional pressure on Toronto. Cleveland improved to 73–71 with a 3–2 win over Detroit, leaving the Guardians one game ahead of the Blue Jays for the final AL wild card.
Toronto now heads to its next series against Oakland, looking to get back above .500 and remain in the postseason race.
