The Tampa Bay Rays answered a difficult stretch with a 7–3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday night.

The win evened the best-of-seven series at two games apiece and took away Cleveland’s opportunity to move within one victory of the World Series.

Game recap: Tampa Bay takes control late

First inning — Cleveland strikes first

The Guardians opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Chase DeLauter delivered an RBI single against Rays starter Nick Martinez.

Cleveland took an early 1–0 lead and looked to capitalize on its home-field advantage.

Third inning — Tampa Bay responds

Tampa Bay tied the game in the third.

Yandy Díaz doubled with two outs, setting up Jonathan Aranda, who singled to bring home the tying run.

The hit provided a much-needed spark for a Rays offence that had struggled in the previous game.

Sixth inning — Junior Caminero puts the Rays ahead

The turning point came in the top of the sixth. Junior Caminero delivered an RBI double to give Tampa Bay a 2–1 lead.

The Rays had finally moved in front, and their bullpen was positioned to protect the advantage.

Seventh inning — Tampa Bay breaks it open

Tampa Bay added three runs in the seventh inning, stretching its lead to 5–1 and putting Cleveland under significant pressure.

The Guardians answered with two runs in the bottom half, cutting the deficit to 5–3 and briefly reviving the home crowd.

Ninth inning — Insurance runs seal the victory

The Rays added two more runs in the ninth, including a two-run home run by Yandy Díaz, to establish the final 7–3 margin.

Tampa Bay’s late offensive surge ensured Cleveland would not complete a comeback.

Pitching report

Nick Martinez, Rays: Earned the victory after giving Tampa Bay a competitive start and allowing the offence to take control.

Cleveland’s bullpen: Could not contain Tampa Bay’s middle-to-late-inning attack, with the Rays pulling away after taking the lead.

Daniel Espino, Guardians: Took the loss.

Three key takeaways

Tampa Bay’s offence awakened. Díaz, Aranda and Caminero provided important contributions after the Rays’ leading hitters struggled earlier in the series.

The sixth and seventh innings changed everything.

Tampa Bay turned a close contest into a four-run advantage before adding insurance in the ninth.

Cleveland’s mistakes proved costly. The Guardians committed two errors and could not sustain their seventh-inning rally.

Game 5: Sunday, October 18, 2026

Progressive Field, Cleveland.

The winner will move within one victory of the American League pennant.

Final verdict

The Rays delivered when the pressure was highest. Their 7–3 victory erased Cleveland’s series advantage, restored momentum to Tampa Bay and turned the ALCS into a best-of-three battle.

After the rain postponement delayed Game 4 by a day, Tampa Bay made the most of its opportunity.

The Rays now have a renewed chance to take control of the series, while Cleveland must regroup before Game 5.
