Leafs Explode for Six Goals to Defeat Colorado Avalanche 6–3

October 10, 2026 · Ball Arena · Denver, Colorado

The Toronto Maple Leafs delivered an impressive offensive performance on Saturday night, defeating the Colorado Avalanche 6–3 on the road to snap back from their recent shootout loss in Las Vegas.

Toronto overcame an early Colorado advantage, erupted for three goals in the second period and added two more in the third to secure an important victory.

The result was particularly encouraging against an Avalanche team featuring elite offensive talent, including Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar.

Game Summary

Toronto’s comeback began early when Nick Blankenburg scored at 3:03 of the first period, assisted by William Nylander and Nick Paul.

Colorado responded through Nathan MacKinnon, who scored twice to give the Avalanche a 2–1 lead after 20 minutes.

The second period proved decisive. Nylander tied the game on the power play at 6:53, with assists from Gavin McKenna and Auston Matthews.

Colorado regained the lead through Brock Nelson, but Nylander scored again at 16:47 to make it 3–3.

Just 46 seconds later, Easton Cowan put Toronto back in front, assisted by Morgan Rielly and Nylander

Toronto carried its momentum into the third period, adding two goals while shutting Colorado out over the final 20 minutes.

The Leafs’ offensive depth and improved game management helped them close out the three-goal victory.

Three Stars of the Game

1. William Nylander — Toronto

Nylander scored twice, including a power-play goal, and contributed assists on other Toronto scoring plays. He was central to the Leafs’ second-period turnaround

2. Auston Matthews — Toronto

Matthews contributed offensively during Toronto’s comeback and helped set up Nylander’s power-play goal.

3. Nathan MacKinnon — Colorado

MacKinnon scored both of Colorado’s first-period goals and briefly put the Avalanche in control of the contest

What This Means for the Maple Leafs

The win gives Toronto a valuable boost after surrendering a three-goal lead in its previous game against Vegas.

The Leafs showed greater offensive punch in Denver, with Nylander, Matthews and Cowan contributing to a successful comeback.

Toronto will look to carry that momentum into its next road game against the Utah Mammoth on October 13 before returning home to face the Buffalo Sabres on October 15.

FiredUp Network Final Take: The Maple Leafs answered adversity with a strong road performance, rallying past Colorado 6–3.

Their second-period surge and shutout third period provided an encouraging blueprint for building consistency early in the season.
