AEW Collision delivered a busy night of action on August 15, with the Continental Challenge Cup taking center stage as the tournament’s opening round came to an end. The show also featured an AEW World Trios Championship defense, Mercedes Moné in action, and several major developments heading toward AEW All In: London.
Hangman Page & Brodido retain the Trios Titles
“Hangman” Adam Page, Bandido and Brody King successfully defended the AEW World Trios Championship against The Lethal Twist — Jay Lethal, Blake Christian and Lee Johnson.
The champions survived a spirited challenge before Brody King finished Lee Johnson with the Gonzo Bomb to secure the victory.
The celebration was short-lived. Ricochet, along with Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona of The Demand, attacked the champions after the match. The Lethal Twist also joined the assault, leaving Page, Bandido and King laid out.
Continental Challenge Cup
The tournament produced three important first-round results:
Hechicero defeated Brian Cage, advancing to the next round.
Nigel McGuinness defeated Katsuyori Shibata, punching his ticket to the quarterfinal stage.
Kyle O’Reilly defeated Roderick Strong in an emotional battle between longtime friends and partners.
O’Reilly’s victory was particularly significant. Strong had previously dominated their singles rivalry, but O’Reilly scored the decisive three-count with a surprise rolling cradle. The two embraced afterward, emphasizing the respect between them despite the intense competition.
Mercedes Moné vs. Zayda Steel
Mercedes Moné defeated Zayda Steel, but the rivalry escalated after the bell. Moné continued attacking Steel and Christopher Daniels until AEW Women’s World Champion Willow Nightingale intervened and chased Moné away.
That confrontation adds another layer to the growing Moné-Nightingale program heading toward All In.
Divine Dominion — Lena Kross and Megan Bayne — defeated Mazzerati and Rachelle Riveter. The Brawling Birds attacked Divine Dominion afterward.
Lio Rush & The Rascalz defeated Lights Camera Faction in an eight-man tag.
The Hurt Syndicate & Shane Taylor Promotions defeated Jake Redondo, Ro Montana, Sonico and Willie Montana.
Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks challenged the Don Callis Family to a six-man tag match for next week.
Christian Cage and Adam Copeland then confronted The Young Bucks, continuing tensions surrounding their recent teaming.
Meanwhile, Swerve Strickland confronted Jack Perry and told him that he would have to get through Swerve to reach the next level.
Nigel McGuinness injury concern
McGuinness advanced after defeating Shibata, but AEW indicated that he may have suffered an injury during the match. His status is expected to be addressed before the Continental Challenge Cup quarterfinals.
