Edmonton officially ended its long playoff drought, Toronto survived Ottawa on the final play, Winnipeg shut down Saskatchewan, and B.C. completed a stunning reversal against Montreal.
Toronto Argonauts 26, Ottawa REDBLACKS 23
The Toronto Argonauts improved to 7-6 with a dramatic home victory over Ottawa. Lirim Hajrullahu won it with a 29-yard field goal on the final play, capping a 12-play, 74-yard drive. Chad Kelly threw for 443 yards and two touchdowns. Ottawa dropped to 0-12, extending its historic losing streak.
Turning point: Toronto’s final possession turned a tie game into a walk-off victory.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers 19, Saskatchewan Roughriders 6
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers dominated the Banjo Bowl rematch, beating Saskatchewan 19-6 at Princess Auto Stadium. The Riders were held without a touchdown, as Winnipeg’s defence repeatedly frustrated quarterback Trevor Harris and the Saskatchewan offence.
The result was particularly significant after Saskatchewan’s overtime Labour Day victory over Winnipeg the previous week.
Edmonton Elks 53, Calgary Stampeders 16
The biggest statement of the week came in Edmonton. The Elks crushed Calgary 53-16, sweeping the Labour Day home-and-home series and clinching their first playoff berth since 2019. Edmonton improved to 10-3, while Calgary fell to 5-8.
Joe Robustelli caught two touchdown passes, while the Elks’ defence and special teams produced a blocked-punt touchdown. Cody Fajardo directed a balanced Edmonton attack in a game that turned into a rout after halftime.
Turning point: Edmonton pulled away after halftime and never allowed Calgary back into the contest.
B.C. Lions 48, Montreal Alouettes 29
The B.C. Lions stunned the previously dominant Montreal Alouettes with a 48-29 victory at BC Place. B.C. improved to 7-6, while Montreal slipped to 10-3.
The Lions’ explosive offence turned the rematch into a statement win after Montreal had defeated B.C. 37-30 the previous week.
Turning point: B.C.’s offence repeatedly converted its opportunities and pulled away from the Alouettes in the second half.
