The Toronto Blue Jays opened the second half of the season with a disappointing 12-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox at Rogers Centre on Friday night. Chicago’s offense erupted early and never let up, handing Toronto another frustrating defeat.
The White Sox seized control with a five-run second inning against starter Spencer Miles before adding three more runs in the fifth and four in the seventh. Braden Montgomery led the Chicago attack with four RBIs, while Colson Montgomery drove in three runs to pace the visitors’ 12-hit performance.
Toronto showed flashes of offense, receiving solo home runs from Luis Urías, George Springer, and Brandon Valenzuela, but the Blue Jays managed just seven hits and were unable to string together enough rallies to threaten Chicago.
The loss drops the Blue Jays further behind in the American League playoff race as they continue to search for consistency following the All-Star break. With the trade deadline approaching, every game becomes increasingly important as Toronto looks to get back on track.
The Blue Jays will try to even the three-game series on Saturday when they return to Rogers Centre looking for a stronger performance on both the mound and at the plate.
