Funding: Hillsborough County will contribute $796 million, the City of Tampa $80 million, and the Rays will provide roughly $1.37 billion and cover cost overruns.
Lease: The Rays have committed to a 35-year lease and a no-relocation agreement.
Construction: The project needs to begin in fall 2026 to remain on schedule for a 2029 opening.
The Tampa City Council approved the deal 4-3, followed by a 5-2 approval from the Hillsborough County Commission on August 28, 2026. The stadium would replace Tropicana Field as the Rays’ long-term home after the current agreement expires following the 2028 season.
The project is being described as the Rays’ “Forever Home” and is intended to secure Major League Baseball in the Tampa Bay region for decades.
