The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Chris Tanev to a six-year contract with an AAV of $4.5 million.
Tanev, 34, had his rights acquired by Toronto on Saturday.
Tanev is what the Maple Leafs need on their defence. A player who can be a shutdown threat and stop the opposing team’s best players.
In the 2023-24 season, he split time between the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars. He was a big part of the Stars going to the Western Conference Final.
In 75 games this season, Tanev scored two goals and 17 assists for 19 points.
Tanev’s contract has a full no-movement clause.
The Toronto, Ontario, native has played in 792 NHL games with 33 goals and 157 assists for 190 points.
