Passed ball leads to go ahead run as the Blue Jays fall to the Mets in game one

The Toronto Blue Jays started their home stand with a game against the New York Mets, and just like their last name, gave away the lead in the late innings.

Originally, Chris Bassitt and David Peterson were scheduled to start for the Blue Jays and the Mets but earlier on Monday, both teams made changes.

For the Blue Jays, they deployed Ryan Burr (0-1, 4.29) to be their opener once again as the Mets sent Tylor Megill (3-5, 4.95) to the mound. Burr threw 2 perfect innings and punched out three, taking a no decision. Megill tossed 6 innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out nine as he also took a no decision.

The Mets scored first in the top of the 4th when J.D. Martinez drove in a run with an RBI single to give his squad a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Jays would not muster any runs until the 7th when they threatened with the bases loaded. Leo Jimenez drove in a run after being hit by a pitch to tie the game at one run apiece. Nathan Lukes then drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead.

The Mets would take the lead in the top of the 8th, thanks to a couple of defensive miscues. With the bases loaded, Tyrone Taylor scored on a wild pitch from Tommy Nance (0-0, 2.87) to tie the game at two. A passed ball later in the inning from Brian Serven allowed pinch runner Eddy Alvarez to score and give the Mets a 3-2 lead.

The Blue Jays would go away quietly in the bottom of the 9th as they fell to the Mets by a final score of 3-2. The Mets, who have been red hot lately, have now won 10 of their last 11 as they have jumped over the Atlanta Braves for a spot in the NL Wild Card.

After the changes made by both squads on Monday, Chris Bassitt (9-13, 4.30) will take the ball for the Blue Jays as David Peterson (9-1, 2.75) will be on the bump for the Mets in game two on Tuesday night.
