The 2024 UEFA European Championship begins in three weeks. Germany will host this year’s tournament. As the day gets closer, clubs are beginning to reveal their squads. This morning, the 2016 European Champions Portugal unveiled their squad.
Unsurprisingly, the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the charge as the captain of Portugal. This will mark his sixth and potentially final appearance with Portugal’s national team at the European Championship.
Roberto Martinez will manage Portugal for his first major tournament with the club. Martinez took over for coach Fernando Santos. Martinez hopes to win a championship with Portugal, something he could not do when he managed Belgium’s squad at previous major tournaments.
Portugal’s squad boasts exceptional talent in every position on the field. The likes of Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias fortify the defensive line. The midfield features the skills of Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, and Joao Palhinha. The attacking front is packed with firepower, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, Raphael Leao, and Diogo Jota, who missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to an injury.
Portugal has an excellent chance to win their second European Championship in the national team’s history.
Portugal’s Euro 2024 squad goes as follows:
Goalkeepers: Rui Patricio (Roma), Jose Sa (Wolves), Diogo Costa (Porto)
Defence: Nelson Semedo (Wolves), Antonio Silva (Benfica), Danilo Pereira (PSG), Joao Cancelo (Barcelona), Ruben Dias (Manchester City), Pepe (Porto), Goncalo Inacio (Sporting Lisbon), Diogo Dalot (Manchester United), Nuno Mendes (PSG)
