The Superbowl is over and the NFL is done till Training Camp opens in late July which means it is the kickoff of the regular season for Pro Wrestling as the Road to Wrestlemania is under way and the march to Revolution is on now. It’s a great time to cover Pro Wrestling as the attention is building for all of the promotions as we are seeing the anticipation in the fans and excitement across all of the companies.
In AEW we are watching a remodeling of the promotion as the fans let you know when the question is, whose house? The answer is Swerve’s House. With the absence of an injured MJF and Adam Cole, the Heavyweight Championship has again risen to the top of the card behind great matches from Swerve and Hangman Adam Page to see who would face Samoa Joe for his second defense of the title since beating MJF. The question was answered last week when the match at Revolution became a Three Way with Swerve, Hangman and Samoa Joe going for the title.
In the Women’s division we’re seeing a renewed commitment and a new level of intensity with Deonna Purrazzo coming in from TNA to challenge Timeless Toni Storm at Revolution. In addition to the Virtuosa AEW has welcomed back Thunder Rosa and is awaiting the arrival of the top free agent in Wrestling Mercedes Mone’ next month in Boston.
All of this is in addition to Sting and Darby Allin capturing the World Tag Team titles last week as the Icon heads to his last match and Will Osprey is on the verge of making his full-time debut in AEW.
This is probably the best run of events for AEW since 2021 and the anticipation is building to All-IN returning to London in August.
In the WWE the Federation may well be on their best run since the Attitude ERA. Chief Creative office Triple H has made great use of the roster pieces to build towards Wrestlemania and even without an injured CM Punk set to wrestle the WWE filled the TMobile Arena in Las Vegas for a press event to kickoff the Wrestlemania season which included the most electrifying man in entertainment the Rock seeming to pivot from confronting the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns to focusing on the Royal Rumble winner the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes.
We now know we will see Reigns versus Rhodes for the Undisputed Universal Title and Seth “Freakin” Rollins off of injury defending the World Heavyweight Title against the winner of the Elimination Chamber. The matches mean something in the WWE and the history of the Wrestlers is at the forefront of the stories which makes all of the matches mean more.
On the Women’s side Bayley is looking more like the Role Model going against her former partners in Damage Control the Kabuki Warriors and Smackdown Champion Iyo Sky. We’re also going to see the amazing Jade Cargill making her impact in the WWE as she is charging towards Wrestlemania as well.
We’ll be talking about all of these matchups and some of the big shows coming up from our partner promotions as Central States, Chicago Style, Glory Pro, Brew Style and Versus Pro all are heading back to the ring this month.
It’s a great time to be a Pro Wrestling Fan, enjoy the season.
