The Toronto Argonauts moved into a strong position in the CFL East with a 37–22 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Labour Day Monday at Hamilton Stadium. Toronto improved to 6–6, while Hamilton fell to 4–9.
Toronto controlled the game for most of the afternoon behind quarterback Chad Kelly, who consistently created big plays through the air. The Argos took a 20–7 lead into halftime, then extended their advantage to 27–7 early in the second half.
A major turning point came after Hamilton quarterback Tre Ford was ruled out for the second half with an upper-body injury. Toronto defensive back DaShaun Amos intercepted Harrison Frost and returned the ball 55 yards to the Hamilton two-yard line, setting up a touchdown that gave the Argos a commanding 27–7 advantage.
Kelly’s biggest first-half moment came on an 11-play, 105-yard touchdown drive, capped by a 29-yard scoring pass to Damonte Coxie. Coxie also reached the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the first time in his CFL career.
Hamilton attempted to rally, but Toronto remained in control. Kelly ultimately put the game away with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Dave Ungerer with 1:43 remaining.
