Toronto FC End Disappointing Season With Heavy Road Loss

Toronto FC closed out its 2026 MLS regular season with a disappointing 4-1 defeat against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday afternoon at Subaru Park.

The Reds struggled defensively against an aggressive Philadelphia attack, conceding four goals in a difficult season finale.

Philadelphia opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Cavan Sullivan found the back of the net, assisted by Indiana Vassilev.

Quinn Sullivan doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 41st minute.

Toronto responded just before halftime. Josh Sargent scored in the 45+8th minute, with Djordje Mihailovic providing the assist.

The Reds went into the dressing room trailing 2-1 with hopes of mounting a second-half comeback.

Second Half: Union Pull Away

Philadelphia wasted little time restoring its two-goal advantage.

Cavan Sullivan scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 58th minute, assisted by Quinn Sullivan.

Bruno Damiani converted another Philadelphia penalty in the 73rd minute to make it 4-1.

Toronto couldn’t find another breakthrough as Philadelphia comfortably protected its lead.

Season Review: Another Disappointing Campaign

Toronto FC finishes the 2026 MLS season in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of:

9 Wins

13 Losses

12 Draws

39 Points

The Reds miss the MLS playoffs for the sixth consecutive season.

Josh Sargent’s goal was another positive individual achievement.

He became Toronto’s first player to reach 10 league goals in a season since 2019.

Final Word

It was a disappointing ending to a frustrating season for Toronto FC.

Defensive inconsistencies, missed opportunities and an inability to maintain momentum once again prevented the Reds from becoming playoff contenders.

The offseason now becomes extremely important.

Toronto must evaluate its roster, strengthen its defensive structure and find the consistency needed to compete in 2027.

The message is clear: Toronto FC needs a fresh start and a much better season ahead.
