WWE SmackDown delivered a major night from Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, headlined by CM Punk defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against hometown favourite Kevin Owens. The show also featured a WWE Tag Team Championship match, the main-roster arrival of Blake Monroe, and further developments involving Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.
CM Punk Retains After Sami Zayn Interference
The main event saw CM Punk defeat Kevin Owens to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship. Owens received tremendous support from the Toronto crowd and came close to winning on several occasions, including a Stunner sequence that was disrupted when the referee was down.
Sami Zayn then became the deciding factor. Owens refused to use the championship belt as a weapon, but Zayn struck Owens with the title belt, allowing Punk to hit the Go to Sleep and secure the pinfall.
After the match, Zayn attacked both Punk and Owens with the championship belt, declaring that the title belonged to him and throwing the championship picture into chaos.
MFT Retain the WWE Tag Team Titles
Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga successfully defended the WWE Tag Team Championship against Damian Priest and R-Truth. Priest and Truth pushed the champions, but the MFT duo ultimately retained their titles.
After the match, Priest appeared frustrated with Truth, briefly teasing further tension between the two partners before embracing him.
Blake Monroe Attacks Giulia
Blake Monroe’s advertised match against Giulia never officially began. Instead, Monroe ambushed Giulia during her entrance and attacked her, leaving the rivalry unresolved and setting the stage for a future confrontation.
Lash Legend Defeats Tiffany Stratton
Lash Legend scored a singles victory over Tiffany Stratton. Following the match, Chelsea Green entered the situation with a kendo stick, making the save and adding another development to the women’s division.
Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton Continue to Escalate
The tension between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton continued ahead of their upcoming clash. Orton made it clear that he has his sights set on championship gold and warned that he intends to pursue the WWE Championship after dealing with Rhodes.
