After a rough stretch that included a sweep in Chicago and a tough start to the World Series rematch series, the Toronto Blue Jays finally gave fans something to cheer about last night at the Rogers Centre.
Toronto pulled out a 4 to 3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 8, 2026, salvaging the final game of the series and snapping a frustrating six game losing streak.
From a longtime fan perspective, this one felt important. The Dodgers came into Toronto swinging the bats extremely well and had already taken the first two games of the series. Getting at least one win against the defending champions felt like a momentum shift the Jays desperately needed.
Early Pressure From The Dodgers
The game started with a familiar challenge. The Dodgers lineup wasted little time putting pressure on Toronto pitching.
Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández, and Will Smith each drove in runs during the middle innings which helped Los Angeles build a 3 to 1 lead.
Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani also stayed hot, reaching base again and extending his impressive on base streak to 43 straight games, tying the record for a Japanese born player set by Ichiro Suzuki.
Toronto’s starter Dylan Cease battled through traffic on the bases and struck out eight hitters while keeping the game within reach.
That effort kept the Jays close enough for the offense to respond.
The Comeback
The Blue Jays offense finally came alive late in the game.
In the seventh inning George Springer ripped an RBI double that helped tie the game and bring the Rogers Centre crowd back into it. Then came the moment that changed everything.
During the eighth inning Davis Schneider reached base and aggressively moved around the bases before eventually scoring the go ahead run after a throwing error by Dodgers catcher Will Smith and just like that the Jays were ahead.
Toronto’s bullpen took over from there. Reliever Tyler Rogers picked up the win and Jeff Hoffman locked down the ninth inning to earn the save and secure the 4 to 3 victory.

At Least We Got One
After losing the first two games of the series and coming off the sweep in Chicago, this win honestly felt bigger than just one game.
The Dodgers are clearly one of the best teams in baseball again this year. Their lineup with Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández, Will Smith, and Kyle Tucker is dangerous from top to bottom.
Toronto showing the ability to fight back and beat them late in the game is encouraging.
Are the Blue Jays off to the perfect start everyone hoped for after last year’s incredible World Series run? Maybe not, but at the same time, it is still early April and this roster still has a ton of talent. Players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer, Andrés Giménez, Kazuma Okamoto, and Ernie Clement are capable of catching fire quickly.
Sometimes all it takes is one gritty win to get a season moving in the right direction. Hopefully this is the one that starts it.
