The Toronto Blue Jays bounced back in impressive fashion on Saturday, defeating the Chicago White Sox 1-0 at Rogers Centre to snap a three-game losing streak.
The story of the game was Shane Bieber, who delivered his best start since joining Toronto. The veteran right-hander pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out six to earn his first victory as a Blue Jay. Toronto’s bullpen preserved the shutout, with Jeff Hoffman, Tyler Rogers, and Louis Varland combining for three scoreless innings. Varland recorded his 20th save of the season.
The Blue Jays scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled to put himself in scoring position before George Springer lined an RBI single to give Toronto a 1-0 lead. That proved to be all the offense the Blue Jays would need.
The afternoon also featured a special celebration of Blue Jays history, as members of the club’s 1992 and 1993 World Series championship teams returned to Rogers Centre for ceremonies that included the unveiling of a Joe Carter statue honoring his iconic World Series-winning home run.
With the victory, Toronto evened the weekend series with Chicago and will look to secure the series win in the finale on Sunday.
