The Toronto Blue Jays delivered an impressive all-around performance, defeating the Kansas City Royals 3-0 at Rogers Centre to snap Kansas City’s nine-game winning streak.
Nathan Lukes provided the game’s decisive offensive moment in the fourth inning. With two runners aboard, Lukes drove a three-run home run to right-centre field, giving Toronto all the offence it would need.
From there, the Blue Jays’ pitching staff took control. Seven Toronto pitchers combined for a six-hit shutout, repeatedly keeping the Royals off the scoreboard and preventing Kansas City from building any sustained momentum. Chad Dallas earned the victory after pitching 2⅔ perfect innings, while Louis Varland recorded his 30th save despite allowing two hits in the ninth.
The Blue Jays also showed strong bullpen depth, retiring 16 consecutive Kansas City hitters during one stretch of the game. The victory ended Toronto’s two-game losing streak and brought the club to within three games of the American League’s third wild-card position.
For the Royals, the loss brought an end to their longest winning streak of the season. Kansas City managed six hits but could not capitalize on its opportunities against Toronto’s pitching.
