Maple Leafs sign Cade Webber

The Toronto Maple Leafs have defenceman Cade Webber on a two-year, entry-level contract at $875,000.

Webber, 23, played with Boston University during the 2023-24 season. He had five assists in 38 games this season.

Webber was a pivotal contributor to helping his club reach the 2024 Men’s Frozen Four semifinals.

Webber was named Hockey East’s Best Defensive Defenceman for 2023-24.

In 123 career NCAA games with Boston University, Webber had one goal and 15 assists.

Webber is 6’7 210 pounds. He is the type of defenceman Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving likes. 

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Webber from the Carolina Hurricanes in a trade, demonstrating their belief in his potential. The trade involved a seventh-round pick and was finalized on March 7th, 2024.

In 2019, the Carolina Hurricanes drafted Webber 99th overall in the fourth round of the NHL draft.
