The Toronto Tempo battled hard at Scotiabank Arena but fell to the Indiana Fever 101–95 on Tuesday night. The loss extended Toronto’s losing streak to 11 games.
Indiana came out flying, taking a 33–23 lead after the first quarter behind a spectacular opening period from Kelsey Mitchell. The Fever maintained control through three quarters, leading 81–69 entering the fourth.
Toronto refused to go quietly. The Tempo outscored Indiana 26–20 in the fourth quarter, repeatedly cutting into the deficit, but the Fever’s early cushion proved too large to overcome.
Marina Mabrey: 22 points, 5-of-14 from three, 3 assists
Aneesah Morrow: 14 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists — a franchise-record 16 rebounds
Kiki Rice: 6 assists
Toronto’s fourth-quarter push provided some encouragement despite the final result.
Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 29 points, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. She scored 16 points in the opening quarter before sitting out the fourth after dealing with overheating/cramping issues. Caitlin Clark added 24 points and 7 assists, while Aliyah Boston contributed 16 points, six rebounds and three blocks.
The result was disappointing, but Toronto showed real fight in the second half and particularly in the fourth quarter. Morrow’s 16-rebound performance was a major positive, while Mabrey continued to carry a significant offensive load.
The Tempo now face another difficult test Wednesday, August 19, at Washington, with little time to recover from this loss.
