Xander Wins British Open, Team USA Almost Loses To South Sudan, Paris Mayor Swims In Seine, Caitlin Clark On NASCAR Car, Aikman/Jackson #8 Dispute

GOLF

Xander Schauffele won the British Open, becoming the first player to win two majors in the same year since Brooks Koepka accomplished this feat in 2018.

OLYMPICS

The men’s USA basketball exhibition play before the Olympics hasn’t impressed. Team USA  beat South Sudan (a team making its first appearance in the Olympics and without any NBA players) by only one point (thanks to a last minute LeBron James layup). Team USA is a four-time defending Olympic champion, so clearly they didn’t take this game seriously enough.

In other Olympic news, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, swam in the Seine to try and prove that the river is safe enough for all the planned swimming events.

NASCAR

WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark’s name will be featured on Josh Berry’s car in NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis

FOOTBALL

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman are battling it out for the trademark “Eight”. Both quarterbacks wore #8, and Aikman is attempting to trademark it for use on apparel and bags. Jackson’s attorney said that Aikman’s use of the number would be “likely to cause confusion”, as Jackson also uses the #8 in retail.
