Tom Kim Defends Title in Las Vegas

The 2023 Shriners Children’s Open took place this past weekend in Las Vegas with Tom Kim emerging victorious. The win marks Kim’s third on tour, all coming within the past 14 months as the young phenom continues to make a name for himself. His last victory came at the event in 2022 as part of a few month-long stretch where he burst onto the scene, including fantastic play at the President’s Cup. With low scores all week, Sunday afternoon turned into a shootout where all players who finished in the top 10 put together rounds of 68 or better.

At this years Shriners, Lexi Thompson became the seventh women in history to ever compete in a PGA Tour event. After two solid rounds of 73-69 Thompson missed the cut by 3 shots. An impressive feat none the less, Thompson was looking to become only the second woman in history to make a PGA Tour cut.

The 2023 Shriners proved a strong showing for several Canadians in the field with Adam Hadwin finishing in a solo second place. Other Canadians with impressive weeks were Taylor Pendrith (T3), Nick Taylor (T13), and Adam Svensson (T18). With his second-place finish Hadwin moves from 56th to 46th in the world, which may play an important role in him getting into The Masters for 2024 as anyone in the top 50 in the world rankings at the end of the calendar year will qualify.
