The Toronto Tempo’s two-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling 89-80 to the Phoenix Mercury at Scotiabank Arena. Despite a spirited effort, Toronto struggled to slow Phoenix’s balanced offense while playing without key contributors.
Phoenix was led by Kahleah Copper, who poured in 27 points, while Valériane Ayayi added a career-high 20 points to help the Mercury control the game. Toronto battled throughout the second half but could never erase the deficit as Phoenix improved its position in the WNBA standings.
The Tempo were missing stars Alyssa Thomas and Marina Mabrey, forcing others to take on larger offensive roles. Toronto showed resilience and fought until the final buzzer but couldn’t overcome the Mercury’s efficient shooting and veteran experience.
The loss drops Toronto to 9 – 10 on the season. The Tempo will look to regroup as they continue their homestand and aim to get back into the win column in their next outing.
