FiredUp Network | MMA Preview | October 17, 2026

The UFC returns to Edmonton, Alberta, on Saturday, October 17, for a major Canadian Fight Night headlined by a pivotal welterweight showdown between American knockout artist Joaquin Buckley and Canadian contender Mike Malott.

The event takes place at Rogers Place, with a second major attraction featuring Canadian Jasmine Jasudavicius against highly ranked flyweight Erin Blanchfield.

With a deep Canadian contingent across the card, the Edmonton crowd will have plenty of homegrown fighters to support.

Main Event — Welterweight

Joaquin Buckley

Ranked No. 10

The explosive striker

Buckley brings exceptional power and the ability to finish a fight with a single clean strike

However, consecutive losses have raised questions about his ability to defend takedowns and maintain control against opponents who can consistently pressure him on the ground.

He needs a strong performance to protect his position in the rankings.

Mike Malott

Ranked No. 13

Canada’s rising contender

Malott enters on a four-fight winning streak and is coming off a third-round stoppage victory over Gilbert Burns in April.

Fighting in front of a Canadian crowd gives him an opportunity to deliver another statement performance and move toward the welterweight top 10.

Three keys to victory

Buckley’s striking power: He must create space, defend takedowns and land his explosive combinations before Malott establishes control.

Malott’s wrestling: Mixing takedowns with measured striking could neutralize Buckley’s biggest weapon.

Cardio and composure: The longer the fight goes, the more important it becomes for both men to manage their pace and avoid costly mistakes.

Prediction: Mike Malott by decision.

Malott’s recent momentum and ability to mix his striking with grappling give him the edge.

Buckley’s knockout power makes this a dangerous matchup for the Canadian, however, and one clean shot could change everything.

Co-Main Event — Women’s Flyweight

Erin Blanchfield vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius

Five-round implications for the flyweight rankings

Blanchfield, ranked No. 4, is one of the division’s leading contenders and brings a dangerous grappling game

Canada’s Jasudavicius, ranked No. 6 in the event listing, will look to use her physicality, pressure and wrestling to produce a major upset in front of the home crowd.

Prediction: Blanchfield by decision.

Her grappling and ability to control opponents make her the pick, but Jasudavicius has the tools to make this competitive.

Other Main Card Bouts

Kyle Nelson vs. Cristian Perez

Featherweight

Canadian veteran Nelson faces Perez, a Contender Series graduate making his UFC debut.

Nelson’s experience will be tested by a newcomer known for finishing fights.

Prediction: Nelson by decision.

Marc-André Barriault vs. Kyle Daukaus

Middleweight

Barriault is an aggressive pressure fighter who thrives in demanding exchanges.

Daukaus will look to use his technical grappling and composure to keep the Canadian from dictating the fight.

Prediction: Daukaus by decision.

Louis Jourdain vs. Timmy Cuamba

Bantamweight

Montreal’s Jourdain makes his UFC debut against Cuamba.

Jourdain will be eager to make an immediate impression, while Cuamba brings valuable experience inside the Octagon.

Prediction: Jourdain by decision.

Mandel Nallo vs. Nate Landwehr

Lightweight

Montreal’s Nallo meets the relentless Landwehr in a matchup that could deliver an entertaining, high-tempo contest.

Nallo’s technical striking will be tested by Landwehr’s pressure and willingness to engage.

Prediction: Landwehr by decision.

Tanner Boser vs. Jhonata Diniz — Heavyweight:

Edmonton’s Boser looks to rebound on home soil against a powerful Brazilian opponent.

Prediction: Diniz by decision.

Final Verdict

UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott has the potential to be a defining night for Canadian MMA.

Malott has the opportunity to establish himself among the elite welterweights, while Jasudavicius faces one of the toughest tests of her career against Blanchfield.

The main event should come down to whether Buckley can land his signature power shots or Malott can successfully mix wrestling, grappling and striking over five rounds.

With a strong Canadian presence throughout the lineup, Edmonton is set for a compelling night of UFC action.
