Depth Scoring and Goaltending have been key lately for the Steelheads

The Mississauga Steelheads have had their ups and downs this season. The team sits fifth in the Eastern Conference with 62 points.

Forwards Luke Misa, Angus MacDonell, and Porter Martone have led the Steelheads’ offence for most of the season, and the club was only getting production from those three players. But recently, the team’s depth has picked up when the games matter the most as the team heads into the playoffs.

Players like Lucas Karmiris, Jack Van Volsen, Chas Sharpe and Dean Loukus have contributed to the club’s games this weekend. All four players had points in their 5-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack on Monday.

Another reason for the club’s success lately has been their goaltending. Ryerson Leenders and Jack Ivankovic have stepped up their play as of late to keep Mississauga in the race for a top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Mississauga gave Ryerson Leenders a break in net the last two games since they will need him to be fresh for the playoffs. Jack Ivankovic got the last two starts in net and made the most of his opportunity, picking up wins in both games. Ivankovic is 9-3-4 on the season with a 2.90 GAA and a .913 save percentage.

If the team wants to continue this most recent success, they are going to need everybody to keep up with their play as they have in these games as of late because time is ticking with 14 games left on the season if the Steelheads want to be in a top spot and have home ice advantage in the playoffs.
