Rays 7, Blue Jays 6
The Toronto Blue Jays came up just short Wednesday night, falling 7-6 to the Tampa Bay Rays in a close battle at Tropicana Field.
Yandy Díaz delivered a key two-run home run for Tampa Bay, while Richie Palacios drove in two runs. Drew Rasmussen earned his sixth consecutive victory, and Bryan Baker closed the door for his 25th straight successful save opportunity.
Toronto battled back and kept the pressure on throughout the game, but a difficult defensive night proved costly.
Max Scherzer was tagged for seven earned runs in four innings, leaving the Blue Jays with a deficit they could not quite overcome. Toronto mounted a late rally, collecting nine hits, but the comeback ended one run short.
The loss dropped the Blue Jays to 62-66 on the season, while the Rays improved to 76-50. The three-game series is now tied at one game apiece heading into Thursday’s finale.
