The Toronto Blue Jays just wrapped up a much needed series win, taking two of three from the Los Angeles Angels and finally giving fans something to feel good about again.
After the roller coaster start to the season and that frustrating Twins series, this one felt important. Not perfect. Not dominant. Though definitely a step in the right direction.
Series Recap:
Game One
Blue Jays 6 Angels 3
- Toronto opened the series with energy and something we have not consistently seen yet this season. Timely hitting.
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. set the tone early with a multi hit game and an RBI that got the offense rolling.
- Davis Schneider continued his strong start to the year with another big night at the plate, driving in runs and getting on base consistently.
- On the mound, Kevin Gausman looked like himself again. He worked deep into the game, controlled the strike zone, and gave the Jays stability right when they needed it.
- This one felt controlled. Confident. The kind of game you expect from a team with playoff expectations.
Game Two
Angels 5 Blue Jays 2
- Game two felt like a step backward.
- Toronto struggled to generate offense and the Angels took advantage of a few mistakes.
- Mike Trout reminded everyone he is still one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball with a big swing that shifted momentum.
- The Jays had chances though could not cash in. That has been a theme in their losses so far this season.
Game Three
Blue Jays 7 Angels 4
- This is where the series was won.
- Toronto responded with one of their more complete offensive games of the season.
- Bo Bichette delivered a huge performance with multiple hits and key RBIs.
- Daulton Varsho added power with a home run that gave the Jays breathing room.
- Andrés Giménez continued to quietly be one of the most important pieces in this lineup, contributing both offensively and defensively.
- The bullpen also stepped up late, something that has not always been a guarantee early this year.
- A strong bounce back win. A series win. Exactly what this team needed.
Big Performers This Series
Toronto Blue Jays
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. consistent production and leadership in the lineup
- Davis Schneider continuing his early season breakout
- Kevin Gausman strong outing to anchor the rotation
- Daulton Varsho power bat showing up in big moments
- Andrés Giménez doing a bit of everything
Los Angeles Angels
- Mike Trout still elite and always a threat
- Taylor Ward key hits in the Angels win
- Logan O’Hoppe solid presence behind the plate and at bat
Injury Update
This is still the biggest storyline around this team right now.
- George Springer fractured toe and currently on the injured list
- Alejandro Kirk fractured thumb and still out
- José Berríos dealing with arm issues
- Shane Bieber dealing with arm issues
- Cody Ponce knee injury
That is a significant group of players. Especially losing George Springer at the top of the lineup.
The depth is being tested early. Players like Davis Schneider, Nathan Lukes, and others are being asked to step up in bigger roles.
So How Are We Looking?
This is where it gets interesting.
The Blue Jays are not off to the dominant start many fans hoped for after last season’s run. The record is hovering around the middle and the team has already gone through hot and cold stretches. Though there are real positives. The offense is starting to find some rhythm. The starting pitching at the top of the rotation looks solid. The team is still showing fight after tough losses. What is missing right now is consistency. That usually comes with health and time.
What’s Next
The schedule does not get easier.
Toronto now heads into a tougher stretch with upcoming games against strong American League opponents. This next run of series will say a lot about what this team really is early in the season.
If the Jays can stack wins here, the early struggles will quickly be forgotten.
If not, the pressure starts to build a little sooner than expected.
Final Thoughts
This Angels series might not define the season. However, it might be the start of something.
A team that came one step away from a championship last year is still in there. You can see it in flashes.
Now it is about turning those flashes into consistency.
One series win down. Time to build on it so bring on the Cleveland Guardians and hopefully this series starts off better than the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers playoff run?
👏 Go Jays Go 👏
