The Toronto Blue Jays erased a five-run deficit with a late offensive explosion, defeating the Chicago Cubs 8-6 on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Toronto scored eight unanswered runs over the final three innings to secure one of its most dramatic victories of the season.

The Cubs appeared in control early. Matt Shaw launched a three-run home run in the second inning, and Pete Crow-Armstrong added a two-run blast in the sixth to give Chicago a commanding 5-0 lead. Blue Jays starter Patrick Corbin struggled through 3⅔ innings, allowing three runs before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Toronto’s offense finally came alive in the seventh inning. After Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Kazuma Okamoto reached base, Daulton Varsho crushed a three-run homer to cut the deficit to 5-3 and swing momentum toward the visitors.

The Blue Jays completed the comeback in the eighth. Miles Straw, George Springer, Alejandro Kirk, and Guerrero sparked a rally that tied the game before Okamoto delivered the decisive blow—a three-run home run that put Toronto ahead 8-5. The blast was Okamoto’s 16th home run of the season.

Chicago threatened in the bottom of the eighth by loading the bases with nobody out, but Toronto’s bullpen limited the damage to a single run. Jeff Hoffman earned the victory with a scoreless seventh inning, while Louis Varland recorded the final six outs for his 16th save of the season.

Blue Jays Highlights

– Daulton Varsho: 3-run homer in the seventh inning.
