The Toronto Tempo snapped their 12-game losing streak with a dramatic 82-79 victory over the Portland Fire on Friday night in Vancouver.
Isabelle Harrison delivered a dominant performance for Toronto, finishing with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Rookie Kiki Rice added 19 points, while Laura Juskaite contributed 15 as the Tempo held off a furious Portland comeback.
Toronto appeared to be in control late, building a 12-point advantage in the fourth quarter. However, Portland responded with a 13-0 run and briefly moved in front, putting the Tempo under serious pressure in the closing minutes.
The Fire had one final opportunity to force overtime, but Emily Engstler’s buzzer-beater missed the mark, allowing Toronto to escape with the three-point win.
The victory improved the Tempo’s record to 11-25 and provided a much-needed response after the team’s lengthy losing streak. Portland fell to 15-21.
After several difficult weeks, the Tempo showed resilience down the stretch and finally found a way to close out a tight contest. Harrison’s double-double led the way, while Rice and Juskaite provided important offensive support.
