The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that they have hired Lane Lambert as an associate coach.
Lambert, 59, was head coach of the New York Islanders for two seasons from 2022-2024. Lambert was an associate coach for the Islanders before being named head coach in the 2022-23 season.
Before that, Lambert was an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators from 2011-2014 and Washington Capitals from 2014-2018, where he won a Stanley Cup.
Lambert also had a career as a player in the NHL. Lambert was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round (25th overall) of the 1983 NHL Draft and spent six seasons in the NHL with Detroit, the Quebec Nordiques and the New York Rangers. He played in 283 career games while putting up 124 points and 521 penalty minutes.
With Lambert’s hiring, the Leafs announced that assistant coach Dean Chynoweth will not return.
