Cavalry Defeat York United to Extend Unbeaten Streak

Cavalry extended their unbeaten streak as they defeated York United FC 1-0 at York Lions Stadium to clinch the regular season trophy and secure the first-seed in the CPL playoffs.

York are in the midst of their playoff push as they hosted Cavalry in their final stretch of home matches.

Eleias Himaras was given the start for York as the club look to reach their required U-21 minutes for the season. It was a massive opportunity for him as he gains meaningful starting minutes for his development as a goalkeeper.

Roger Thompson made an excellent defensive play in the 25th minute as he sprinted back to make a perfectly-timed slide tackle to break up a goal scoring opportunity for a corner-kick.

Cavalry got on the scoresheet in the 38th minute after receiving a cross pass and struck the ball past Himaras to give his club the 1-0 lead.

Myer Bevan had an opportunity to extend the lead to 2-0 but Himaras came out of his goal and made a great stop to keep The Nine Striped within one heading into halftime.

There were a few moments within the first 10 minutes of the second half where York looked like they would score the equalizing goal but couldn’t finish their chances. Austin Ricci had an excellent opportunity as he maneuvered his way around Cavalry defenders, but his shot was blocked by a defender sliding in with a challenge.

York had more urgency in the second half which resulted in improved play as they were a lot more aggressive with their attack.

Martin Nash made an adjustment in the 71st minute by subbing on Clement Bayiha to add another attacking player to provide more options and hopefully score an equalizer.
