The Toronto Raptors added another versatile wing to their young core Tuesday night, selecting forward Allen Graves with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft. Graves, a 6-foot-9 freshman from Santa Clara University, becomes the newest piece in Toronto’s ongoing effort to build a long, athletic, positionless roster.

Graves emerged as one of the fastest-rising prospects in this year’s draft after an impressive season with the Broncos. He averaged 11.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.8 assists while earning West Coast Conference Sixth Man of the Year honors and a spot on the All-WCC First Team. His combination of size, defensive instincts and efficient shooting made him one of the most intriguing forwards available outside the lottery.

The selection continues a long-standing Raptors trend of targeting lengthy forwards capable of defending multiple positions. Graves joins a roster headlined by Scottie Barnes, along with veteran wings and versatile defenders, giving Toronto another player who fits its preferred style of play. Raptors executives reportedly valued Graves’ basketball IQ, defensive versatility and ability to contribute without needing the ball in his hands.

Analysts have described Graves as an “analytics darling” because of his outstanding advanced metrics and efficient all-around game. He shot over 41 percent from three-point range and ranked among the NCAA leaders in several advanced statistical categories despite coming off the bench for much of the season.

Following the selection, Graves expressed excitement about joining Toronto, noting that the organization’s culture and history of developing versatile players made it an attractive destination. He said he believes his game fits naturally with the Raptors’ system and looks forward to learning from the team’s established veterans.

While some draft observers expected Toronto to pursue backcourt help, the Raptors instead stayed true to their philosophy by adding another multi-dimensional forward with upside on both ends of the floor. If Graves can develop his offensive game and maintain his defensive intensity, he could become an important contributor to Toronto’s future playoff aspirations.

The Raptors will continue building their draft class during the second round on June 24 as they look to add more depth to a roster aiming to take the next step in the Eastern Conference.
